The Rev. Dr. Bill Steinberg is the founding pastor of The Church of the Resurrection.

The son of an Episcopal priest, Bill grew up in the Midwest and finished high school in Oregon. He graduated from Western  Oregon State College and went on to receive an M.Div. degree from Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1987. Working in the area of Congregational Development, Bill earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Seabury-Western in 2003.

Bill and his wife Melodi met while in college and were married in 1985.  They are parents to two sons, Timothy and Michael.

Prior to coming to North Carolina, Bill served as head pastor at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Walla Walla, Washington for eight years. In 1999, sensing a call from God to accept a new challenge, the Steinbergs moved across the country to build a new type of congregation from the ground up in the north Raleigh-Wake Forest area.  After experiencing and enduring many ups and downs, turmoil in the Episcopal Church eventually proved to be fatal, and by 2005 the congregation had failed. 

In the fall of 2005, Bill was appointed pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fuquay-Varina.  Within two years, average attendance at Trinity doubled, and in 2007 the congregation met a long-standing goal of becoming self-supporting. 

But it was not to last.  For many years Bill had concerns about the direction of The Episcopal Church, and by the end of 2007 he knew he could remain in it no longer.  In 2008, Bill requested affiliation with The Anglican Mission in the Americas and announced he was forming a new Anglican congregation in the Fuquay-Varina/Holly Springs area.  On March 28th, 2008, The Church of the Resurrection held its first service – and has continued growing in faith, members and ministry to this day. 

Why the Anglican Mission in the Americas (The AM or AMiA)?  Bill's interest in the AM dates back to 2004.  He is attracted to AMiA's commitment to Anglican heritage and evangelical witness – and its ability to hold both together with integrity and power.  Specifically, Bill finds the AM's Three Streams of Scripture, the Sacred, the Spirit to be compelling and unique.   The Anglican Mission in the Americas has proven to be a comfortable yet challenging home for Bill and CTR.

A defining event for the Steinberg family came in March 2006, when their oldest son, Tim, was one of four Wakefield High students killed in an auto accident.  Almost five years later that tragedy continues to have devastating impact, as the Steinbergs miss and mourn Tim daily.  As Bill reflects, “You don't ever recover from that, but by God's grace, you are able to slowly move forward.” The Steinbergs continue to be strengthened by the prayers and support of the CTR community.

Bill brings to CTR a great desire to see people come to, and continue growing, in faith. He has a wealth of experience in congregational development and in strengthening lay ministry. An engaging and creative speaker, Bill has a knack for making the Bible come alive for his listeners in new ways.  

Acting upon a life-long interest in the legal profession, and bringing it together with his pastoral skills and experience, since 2008 Bill has been serving as a certified Mediator, volunteering several times each month with Carolina Dispute Settlement Services.  Bill's other outside interests include fly-fishing, cooking, and fitness (which, thanks to Synvisc injections in his left knee, he is able to pursue once again).   Bill and Melodi reside in Willow Spring, just outside Fuquay-Varina.  Their remaining son Michael is a Junior at UNCW.
